The upcoming filming of Final Destination 6 may see the return of several familiar faces from previous installments.
Final Destination 6 marks the long-awaited return of the terrifying Final Destination franchise.
The sequel, filming on which will resume once the SAG-AFTRA strike concludes, will build on the mythology established in the previous installments.
And that, according to serial creator Jeffrey Reddick, will bring back a familiar face in the lead role.
New Horizons Await in Final Destination 6
According to Reddick’s interview with Collider, the film’s fresh take on the franchise’s lore eliminates the usual “amazing setup, and then there’s gonna be one wrinkle that can potentially save you all that you have to kind of make a moral choice about or do to solve it” scenario. To quote the author, “There’s an expansion of the universe that – I’m being so careful… It kind of unearths a whole deep layer to the story that kind of, yes, makes it really, really interesting.”
Final Destination 2 is directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the film Freaks. Based on an original tale by Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts, the script was written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor. Other than this latest story concerning Tony Todd’s comeback as Bludworth, no cast members have been named as of yet.
All five of the prior films in the Final Destination series have used the same basic premise. A character has a foreboding of a disaster that will kill many people, but they are given a chance to flee just before the disaster happens. But Death does not appreciate being tricked, and it finds its way to those who have evaded it.
There is no set date for the release of Final Destination 6. In Vancouver, filming won’t get underway until the SAG-AFTRA strike ends.
The Spirit of Final Destination Revived
The film’s script was being written by Reddick before the Hollywood strikes began, therefore production has already begun. Now that we know who will be working on the project, we can expect to hear more about the story and who will be playing key roles.
According to Reddick, the current focus of the writing staff is on tying the upcoming film into the franchise’s earliest entries and capturing the spirit of the story’s origins.
“We’re gonna get a winner, and also I spoke to Guy Busick, he did the Scream reboot, and [Lori] is his writing partner, and they were so gracious because they actually – I’m friends with Craig Perry to this day. We’re really tight. [He] produced it, and he’s like, ‘They called me.’ They wanted to talk to me about the first film and the second film, about what my thoughts were on what makes a Final Destination film – kind of the key elements that are crucial to me.
It’s just really nice because you don’t get that a lot. I’m friends with Eric Bress, who wrote part two. You become friends a lot of times with people just crossing paths, and Eric [Heisserer] who wrote part five is amazing. But it’s nice when the filmmakers actually call you and are like, ‘We wanna make sure that we get the essence of what’s important to you and what you think makes these Final Destinations, what you found connects with the fans.’ So, they have gone into the story with the best heart.”
