On the eve of its scheduled start date, the $1.6 billion defamation case between Dominion Voting Systems and Fox News has been postponed, a court representative announced on Sunday.
The jury selection process’s conclusion and opening arguments, initially scheduled for Monday morning, have been moved to Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. ET.
After the delay was revealed Sunday night, Fox and Dominion spokespeople were contacted for comment but did not immediately respond with a statement.
Dominion, a business that offers voting equipment and election software, said Fox Corp. and its cable TV networks slandered it after Fox broadcast untrue allegations that it rigged the 2020 election in favor of former President Donald Trump.

According to Fox, the assertions about Dominion on its air were protected by the First Amendment and that Dominion has not fulfilled the legal requirement for defamation.
According to an earlier Sunday Wall Street Journal report, Fox has reportedly made a last-minute effort to settle the lawsuit amicably.
Most defamation cases settle out of court. But as recently as Saturday, the possibility of Dominion and Fox avoiding trial seemed as unlikely. “In the coming weeks, we will prove Fox spread lies causing enormous damage to Dominion. We look forward to trial,” a Dominion spokesman told CNBC on Saturday morning.
The case’s judge, Eric Davis, stated in a court statement that he would formally announce the postponement from his courtroom on Monday at 9 a.m. ET.
