Jennifer Hudson Was Accompanied by Her Beau Common During Her Unforgettable Halftime Performance

Jennifer Hudson thrilled her legion of admirers over the weekend by competing in several athletic competitions. On Sunday, February 19, in Indianapolis, Indiana’s Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the EGOT recipient performed during the halftime show of the NBA All-Star Game.

With a five-minute concert that included hits including “Remission,” “Spotlight,” and “I Got This,” she wowed the audience. In a purple and black jumpsuit, JHud sported a number 17 tattooed across her breast. Her long, Rapunzel-esque hair was pulled into a high ponytail, adding to her fashionable image.

Although she refrained from posting any images of her boyfriend Common to social media, he was there, quietly supporting his girlfriend from a distance as they watched the game together in the stands.

Along with other celebrities including Jadakiss, Fabolous, and AJ McLean, he was subsequently seen at the private Indianapolis after-game party known as the All-Star Wrap Party. A surprise performance by 2 Chainz was enjoyed by guests as they sipped on specialty Grand Marnier cocktails!

Jennifer had just joined Lil Wayne, AJ McLean, and A’ja Wilson in the All-Star Celebrity Game on February 16. David Daniel Otunga Jr., her son who is fourteen years old, was there to cheer her on as she had a fantastic time playing, even if her team lost.

Taking part in the athletic event was a blast for Jennifer, and she documented her excitement with several social media photos afterward. “I have been dreaming of this moment for such a long time and tonight it finally happened!!!” she wrote beside a series of court pictures.

Everything came to a head today when I played in the @nbaallstar game! I had the time of my life! In any case, I appreciate you letting me partake in that. As always, I appreciate the opportunity to be here today, @nba. I will see all of you on Sunday at halftime!

When Jennifer played basketball, she sported the number 17. In 2022, the musical A Strange Loop—on which the singer served as a producer—won a Tony, making her the 17th person to attain EGOT status. The number 17 holds significant meaning for the singer.

She was already a three-time Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy winner; the Tony was the cherry on top of her impressive resume. Even the ceremony itself was deeply emotional for Jennifer, who couldn’t help but think of her late brother Jason. Tragically, in October 2008, in Chicago, Jason, Jennifer’s mother Darnell Donerson, and Julian King, her seven-year-old nephew, were all slain.

William Balfour, the star’s ex-brother-in-law, is currently serving a life term for the killings. With the heartfelt caption, “My brother Jason would have turned 45 today!,” Jennifer shared a beautiful photo of her sibling on social media to honor Jason, who would have turned 45 on Saturday.

My birthday is being celebrated in honor of him over #NBA All-Star weekend since he has always been the biggest basketball fan! A very happy birthday to you, Jason!
