For Nat Geo, Chris Hemsworth will keep pushing himself, both physically and psychologically. Like its debut season, the second season of Disney+-hosted Limitless With Chris Hemsworth will be available on the Disney+ streaming service. More than twelve months have passed since the debut of the pilot in November 2022, and now comes the official pickup.
The (mostly staged) nature series A Real Bug’s Life, which is based on the 1998 Pixar film A Bug’s Life, has also been renewed by Nat Geo and Disney+. That uptick occurred only two weeks after the series premiere, which is significantly faster. During Thursday’s Television Critics Association press tour, Nat Geo revealed both pickups.
In the first season of Limitless, Hemsworth investigated new scientific discoveries that could extend and improve people’s lives by testing them on himself. According to the show’s logline, “a series of physical and mental obstaclesthat people across the world face daily: mental agility, pain, burnout and interpersonal connection” will be the emphasis of season two.
Hemsworth addressed his strengths, flaws, and the various ways humans might plan for longevity in a statement he made after working on Limitless. “The goal for the upcoming season is to take health and wellness professionals from all over the world on an even deeper exploration of this topic, thus raising the bar.”
It is with great pleasure that we announce the return of the show, as explained by Tom McDonald, executive vp global factual and unscripted content at National Geographic: “Millions of viewers around the world were inspired and wowed by the combination of science, endeavor, and the incredibly committed Chris Hemsworth in the first season.
Just like Limitless, this new season will be massive, dramatic, and full of obstacles. But that’s not all! We’ve got some major surprises in store for both the viewer and Chris himself.
Along with Hemsworth and Ben Grayson from Wild State, Nutopia’s Jane Root and Tom Watt-Smith are executive producers of Limitless, alongside Protozoa Pictures’ Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel.
Season 2 of A Real Bug’s Life, narrated by Awkwafina, will be available to stream this coming fall. A making-of episode describing the crew’s approach to filming the microscopic world of bugs will be available in season two.
Plimsoll Productions is the studio behind the show. Along with Justine Schmidt and Pamela Caragol from Nat Geo, Martha Holmes, Tom Hugh-Jones, Grant Mansfield, and themselves serve as executive producers for Plimsoll.
Added National Geographic updates from TCA:
– The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie will star in the second installment of Shark Beach (Hemsworth led the first one), which will be set around his hometown of New Orleans and take on depredation, in which sharks prey on a fisher’s catch before it can be retrieved.
– Nat Geo has greenlit a feature documentary about Sally Ride, the first American woman to travel to space. Sally, from director Cristina Constantini (Mucho Mucho Amor), will explore her life and trailblazing career via archival footage and interviews with close friends and colleagues.
– The company has also ordered a series called Pathological: Chasing a True-Crime Con Man that will detail how author and serial killer expert Stéphane Bourgoin built his reputation “on a foundation of morbid lies.” It’s based on a 2022 New Yorker story by Lauren Collins.
