Is Newsom Calls For Federal Investigation Into High Gas Prices?

Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, demanded on Monday that the federal government look into the recent rise in natural gas prices in the state as millions of families deal with skyrocketing utility bills for gas. Californians will also receive aid, according to the state.

Newsom asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to “immediately focus its investigatory resources on assessing whether market manipulation, anticompetitive behavior, or other anomalous activities are driving these ongoing elevated prices in the western gas markets” in a letter to the agency.

Additionally, credits of $90 to $120 will appear on gas and electricity bills as early as next month, relieving millions of Californians from their excessive utility bills.

To assist California families with rising gas prices, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) decided to speed up the California Climate Credit on Thursday.
