Parade’ Broadway Revival: Parade, a musical written by Jason Robert Brown and Alfred Uhry, is making its way to Broadway in a New York City Center Encores production! The musical debuted in 1998 and is making its debut in a revival for the very first time.
Beginning performances at Broadway’s Jacobs Theatre on February 21, the production will have its opening night on March 16, and Michael Arden will serve as the show’s director. Through August 6, a limited engagement of the show will be performed.
Ben Platt, winner of the Tony Award, and Micaela Diamond, who also won the Tony Award, will play Leo Frank and Lucille Frank, respectively. The Parade is a drama inspired by real-life events and tells the story of a Jewish couple living in Marietta, Georgia named Lucille and Leo Frank.
The film follows the Franks as they are torn apart and brought back together by Leo’s murder trial in 1913 and his conviction, appeal, and eventual lynching. There will be further casting revealed very soon.

Brown and Uhry said in a statement that they were “proud to bring the narrative of Leo Frank to the musical stage” twenty-five years ago. This was done under the direction of the “visionary director” Hal Prince. “It was an incredible privilege to witness an entirely new audience engage with Parade at City Center while being thrillingly directed by Michael Arden, a unique visionary.
We could not be more thankful that this show is now coming to Broadway, where many more people will get the opportunity to see Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond produce fantastic performances and lead this vast and talented cast.
Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant created the choreography for Parade. Susan Hilferty was in charge of costume design, Dane Laffrey was responsible for scenic design, Heather Gilbert was in the order of lighting design, Jon Weston was in charge of sound design, Sven Ortel was in charge of projection design, Tom Murray was in charge of music direction, and Tom Watson was in the order of hair and wig design.
Why Was He Given The Tony Award?
In 1998, the Broadway production of Parade made its debut at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. Tony Awards were given to both the librettist Uhry and the composer Brown for their respective works. Brent Carver and Carolee Carmello were the leads in the play’s first production, which Harold Prince directed.
