Rep. George Santos, a Republican, denied touching a former prospective employee in his congressional office on Monday and referred to the sexual harassment claim as “comical.”
Santos, the troubled rookie member from New York dealing with several other scandals and investigations, said he “of course” and “100%” denies the most recent claim.
Three days prior, Santos’ accuser, Derek Myers, said he had submitted a report requesting an investigation into the alleged sexual harassment event by the House Committee on Ethics and the U.S. Capitol Police.
According to a letter Myers shared on Twitter, Myers also requested that the ethics panel look into Santos’ office for allegedly giving him staff responsibilities and promising him future employment while he was an unpaid volunteer.

Santos’ attorney, referred to by a spokeswoman for his office to CNBC, declined to comment. When CNBC contacted the U.S. Capitol Police for comment regarding Myers’ purported report, they did not immediately answer.
Last week, Talking Points Memo published audio Myers had secretly recorded inside the congressman’s office, bringing Myers’ participation with Santos to light for the first time.
The article noted that Myers, a local news reporter, had been charged with wiretapping last year when his publication leaked audio of courtroom testimony.
The non-profit Committee to Protect Journalists has demanded the dismissal of those accusations.
Myers claimed in his letter, published on Friday, that Santos had harassed him sexually on January 25 while they were alone in the congressman’s office sorting through constituent letters.
According to Myers’ letter, Rep. George Santos was accused of sexual harassment. Santos had earlier that day inquired about Myers’ presence on the LGBTQ dating app Grindr and revealed that “he, himself, had a profile.”

Santos “insisted” that Myers sit next to him on a small sofa before resting his hand near Myers’ knee and stating, “Hey buddy, we’re going to karaoke tonight,” according to Myers. Do you want to go?”
After Myers said no, Santos, according to the letter, “continued to take his hand and move it down my leg into my inner thigh and proceeded to touch my groin.”
He gave his address to Myers and said, “My husband is out of town tonight if you want to come over,” according to the letter.
Myers claimed that he moved Santos’ hand away, picked up the conversation about constituent letters again, and then quickly departed the office.
After five days, according to Myers, he received a call to come to Santos’ office, where he was “asked about my experience as a journalist” and information that “had already been provided” in conversations with hiring managers.
The letter said that Myers’ job offer was withdrawn on February 1. He was offered a staff position on January 23 and started working in the office the following day.
Still, the letter states that he was informed that his title would be “volunteer” until his onboarding paperwork had been handled.
In requesting a probe, Myers stated, “Since this, I have discovered that such volunteer labor within a Congressional office without the proper processes being followed violates the House Ethics.”
The Republican-controlled House Committee on Ethics office did not immediately answer inquiries about Myers’ letter.
Rep. Susan Wild, the highest-ranking Democrat on the panel, received the letter, according to a spokesperson who talked to NBC.
A request for a response from the Office of Congressional Ethics, a nonpartisan organization Myers had tagged in his Twitter thread, likewise went unanswered immediately.
