Splash Mountain Ride Closing In 2023 And 2024 ‘The Princess And The Frog’ Replacement Revealed By Disney!
Disney revealed in June 2020 that “The Princess and the Frog” would serve as the new theme for the Splash Mountain attraction. Before it closes for a significant renovation, there are less than two months for Disney visitors to ride the renowned theme park attraction Splash Mountain.
As Disney seeks to distance itself from the widespread criticism that the ride promotes “racial stereotypes,” the attraction will shut down on January 23, 2023.
The current theme of Splash Mountain is inspired by Br’er Rabbit’s exploits in the 1946 movie “Song of the South,” which has drawn criticism for its depiction of plantation life.
In a March 2020 shareholders meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated, “I’ve believed, as long as I’ve been CEO, that ‘Song of the South was – even with a disclaimer – was just not suitable in today’s environment.”
More than 21,000 people signed an online petition in 2019 urging Disney to “re-theme Splash Mountain.” Supporters of the change pointed to the parks’ need for greater diversity and representation.
No of your ethnicity, age, or background, Disney parks should be a place you can enjoy. Someone wrote. “Tiana might be one of the first princesses with a thrill ride, providing her a position in the parks she so richly deserves.”

Another petition to rescue the attraction gained 93,000 signatures after Disney’s announcement, which came shortly after.

Disney added in an earlier statement, “The re-theming of Splash Mountain is particularly significant today because of the park’s lengthy history of modernizing attractions and introducing new magic. The new idea is inclusive and relates to the diversity of the millions of individuals that visit our parks each year. It is one that all of our visitors can relate to and be inspired by.”
Tiana’s tale will continue in a Disney+ series that follows her after the events of the 2009 movie, in addition to the revamped ride. Disney has not yet announced the exact date of its premiere, but it is likely to occur around 2023.
