Matthew Preziose: Following his weekend drowning while swimming in Hawaii, a 25-year-old photographer and graphic designer from New Jersey is being mourned by his loved ones.
According to an online campaign started by his family, Matthew Preziose was on vacation with “his boyfriend and love of his life Nick” when tragedy struck on Saturday.
Two swimmers were reportedly in danger in the sea off Lumaha’i Beach when rescuers were called, according to a news release from the Kaua’i Police Department.
The second swimmer, Matthew Preziose, was last seen being swept out to sea, according to onlookers, who also said that one swimmer managed to reach the beach safely.
Matthew Preziose has been missing for three days, and active search operations have been halted.
The family friend said on the fundraiser website, “After a rescue effort by Nick and an intense three-day search, Matthew Preziose was never located tragically.
“At 25 years old, Matthew Preziose still had his entire life ahead of him. Matt was a gifted graphic designer and photographer with a free spirit and a love of life, “they went on. “Many people only have a few close friends, but Matthew Preziose was one of the uncommon persons with many close friends who all loved him.”
His mother, Kimberly Branciforte Preziose, responded when the Daily Voice contacted her for comment that she was “too heartbroken at this moment to put words together.”
Matthew’s family and friends, some of whom “flew to the island to monitor” their efforts, received sincere thanks from the authorities when they revealed on Tuesday that they were ceasing their active search for him.
They wrote, “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Matthew Preziose during this trying time. We are grateful for their thoughtfulness, kindness, and messages of gratitude and appreciation for the team’s efforts in trying to find Matthew.

Police said the search needed an “extraordinary effort” due to the circumstances.
With hazardous surf and strong currents, especially on Kauai’s North Shore, they observed, “it is never simple undertaking major search operations for missing swimmers during the winter season.” “Everyone involved made a tremendous effort, and we appreciate them all,” the statement reads.
Loved ones have been signing and sharing a petition, paying respect to him, and uniting to help his family. The petition, which was started in his honor, asks that notices be placed nearby Lumaha’i Beach cautioning visitors against swimming in the area’s waters.
A statement on the page says, “It might save lives and save another tragedy.”
