Leon County Deputy Killed: Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell announced the identity of the deputy killed in an ambush 24 hours earlier, whose voice trembled as he did so.
The First Leon County deputy to die in the line of duty in over a century was Chris Smith, age 47.
Campbell struggled to hold back tears while trying to put together the awful events, as did the Leon County and Sheriff’s Office families.

On August 12, 2021, correctional deputy Nowak perished during duty in Tallahassee, Florida. Nowak was employed by the Leon County Detention Facility’s medical department. He had worked for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for more than 19 years.
He had worked for the government his entire adult life. Nowak performed many tours of service as a veteran of the US Marine Corps and the Army.

When he went to the end of Caracus Court to investigate allegations of a home fire, Deputy Sheriff Christopher Smith was ambushed and shot. At 10:22 a.m., Deputy Smith was among the first people on the scene and was fatally shot by the assailant after being approached from behind.
After that, the assailant stole Deputy Smith’s weapon and kept firing at additional emergency personnel, including Tallahassee Fire Department and Tallahassee Police Department personnel. Before the subject was shot and killed by an off-duty Tallahassee police officer who lived nearby and had rushed to the sound of gunshots, another sheriff’s deputy was shot and injured.
According to speculation, the suspect set the house on fire to kill as many emergency personnel as possible.
In the past, Deputy Smith worked as a dispatcher and a prison officer. Before joining the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, he had approximately 26 years of law enforcement experience. Deputy Smith leaves behind a wife and kids.

Before the car crashed into a ditch close to the intersection of Seminole Drive and South Magnolia Drive, deputies had been pursuing it for several blocks. The suspect fired fire on K9 Koda and the deputies while still running away on foot. Before putting the person into custody, two officers exchanged gunfire with the subject, wounding him.

It was then discovered that the suspect was sought on outstanding warrants for firing a gun from a moving car, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and attempted first-degree murder.

Unaware that a heist was in progress, he and another jailer had gone inside a food store on Lake Bradford Road near West Orange Avenue. Deputy Revels and the other deputy were both unarmed and in uniform despite being off duty.
The three armed offenders forced the two deputies to lie on the ground next to four customers. Before one of the subjects declared he was going to kill all the victims, the men stole the deputies of their money.
The comment inspired Deputy Revels to leap to his feet and engage in combat with one of the individuals. The other deputy helped him. One of the other subjects shot both deputies multiple times as they wrestled with the man. Deputy Revels received fatal injuries, while the other deputy was seriously hurt.
Finally, all three suspects were found. They were given a life sentence after being found guilty on several counts linked to the murder and robbery.

An escaped Georgia prisoner shot and killed Sheriff Langston at a turpentine camp outside Spring Hill. According to information the sheriff had received, the suspect was reportedly in a specific place. The culprit attacked Sheriff Langston and shot him before escaping as he searched a shed.
A group of men attacked the county jail on June 6, 1909, and lynched the suspect. His wife and two children survived the late Sheriff Langston.
