Elton John is precisely who he is. (Or, if you want to use his given name, Reginald Kenneth Dwight.) Although Taron Egerton (Kingsman) accepted the task of portraying one of the most well-known figures of the 20th century, he believes that Rocketman is only a loose depiction of John’s life.
Egerton says, “We went out to be innovative inside a movie that is a tribute to someone.” Although it is a biographical movie, it is not a biopic. According to John, the film is “clearly not all real, but it’s the truth,” in an essay in the Guardian.
Jamie Bell As Bernie Taupin
When Jamie Bell was cast as Bernie Taupin, a longtime friend and collaborator of John’s, his career came full circle. Bell’s most well-known character is still Billy in the 2000 film Billy Elliot, even though most people now wouldn’t recognize him for it.
The young Bell first met John Elton during the Cannes premiere of the movie. It was pretty intimidating for Bell to meet someone so well-known for the first time, she told Deadline. The character John Reid, John’s manager and sporadically romantic interest is portrayed by Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard). Madden said to Elton John in an interview, “As an actor, your inclination is always to strive to do something beautiful and to be admired. “John Reid is not particularly likable in many ways. Playing with that was great fun.”
Bryce Dallas Howard As Sheila Dwight
Dallas Howard admitted to being quite astonished when he initially read the script, according to Vanity Fair. She questioned whether John’s mother, Sheila Dwight, was as nasty as she was depicted in writing. However, she conducted her research and reached the same conclusion. He told the Daily Express, “They have transformed him into this cliché with a big fat cigar, swearing every other word. “He wasn’t that way. He was never combative. Never did he lose his fury. He did not swear. However, it is how they portrayed him in the movie.”
