What Will Be The Diplomat Season 2 Release Date?

The Diplomat is Netflix’s newest thriller series, an eight-part political drama following career diplomat Kate Wyler as she adjusts to her new high-profile job as a UK ambassador in the midst of an international crisis, all while attempting to survive her stormy marriage to fellow career diplomat Hal.

With a cast that includes Keri Russell from Cocaine Bear, Rory Kinnear from Bank of Dave, and Rufus Sewell from Old, the new program has managed to dethrone fellow political drama The Night Agent from its long-standing number one perch in Netflix’s global top 10.

What Will Be The Diplomat Season 2 Release Date?

Netflix typically announces a renewal within one or two months of the premiere of a new show, and production can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months.

So, assuming The Diplomat’s ratings are high enough to compel a renewal from Netflix within that time frame (which seems likely), season two will most likely launch in the spring of 2024.

Despite the show’s promise, the wait for an announcement will undoubtedly be torturous for fans given Netflix’s history of canceling projects.

But there’s good news: series showrunner Debora Cahn has signed a comprehensive agreement with Netflix, and she told Elle that she prefers shows that can continue for numerous seasons.

“I have been fortunate in my life to work on a lot of long-running series, so I think that’s how I think,” she said. “I look for stories that can go on for a long time because, for me, the excitement of being able to go in really deep with characters you already know and you have a relationship with is fantastic.”

The Diplomat Season 2 Cast: Who Will Be Coming Back?

If The Diplomat returns for a second season, Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, David Gyasi as Austin Dennison, Ali Ahn as Eidra Graham, and Rory Kinnear as Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge are all expected to return.

The following actors are expected to return for season two:

Miguel Sandoval as Miguel Ganon
• Nana Mensah as Billie Appiah
Michael McKean as US President Rayburn

Because they were both within range of Conservative MP Merritt Grove’s (Simon Chandler) car exploding, Kate’s husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) and Stua rt Hayford’s (Ato Essandoh) fates are a little more unknown.

As the French police informs Kate of the news in Paris, we watch but do not hear. But are Hal and Stuart dead or hurt?

The Diplomat Season 2 Plot: What Will Happen?

Kate and Austin deduce in the season one finale that Trowbridge orchestrated the attack on HMS Courageous and hired the Russian Lenkov Group to assassinate his own troops.

We then see Grove’s car explode near Stuart and Hal, as the cops alert Kate of the news, and the credits roll.

If season two is approved, we’ll finally learn if the explosion killed these characters or are healing in a hospital. Meanwhile, Kate and Austin will almost certainly continue to build a case against Trowbridge, and the White House’s efforts to swear Kate in as Vice President will undoubtedly continue.

Of course, only time and renewal can tell, but it’s a positive sign that leading lady Russell is eager to return for another round of surprises.

“I would love it. I am enjoying myself so much on this show. I couldn’t say better things about Debora Cahn and her writing and everyone I’m working with on this project,” she told Parade.

“So, I would love the opportunity to do a second season. Netflix will let us know. Who knows what works and what doesn’t? But I would absolutely love it.”
