Dua Lipa Training Season: Even though Dua Lipa managed to disappear with “Houdini,” she’s back for another smash hit single. “Training Season” is the new track that the pop artist unveiled on Thursday (Jan. 25). Lipa declares her extreme weariness with average males as she lip-syncs to a little sample of the new song on her TikTok.
Over a thumping beat, she sings, “I need someone to hold me close, deeper than I’ve ever known/ Whose love feels like a rodeo, knows just how to take control.” A string of disappointing dates served as inspiration for the song, according to the singer’s statement.
Her last entry was the “final straw,” she said in her writing. “The following morning, when I got to the studio, Caroline [Ailin] and Tobias [Jesso Jr.] were asking how everything went. Without hesitation, I said, ‘Training season is over.’ We had a great “day after” debriefing with our teammates, laughing, and making everything fall into place from that point on.”
“The song doesn’t only apply to my love life,” Lipa continued. “Although it’s apparent that it’s about that feeling of being done with advising people, especially men, on how to date you, it’s also about my training season coming to an end and me learning from every experience,” she wrote.
“My sense of self-assurance, clarity, and agency has never been higher. Even while none of us ever truly gets out of training, there’s something quite magical about discovering the perfect partner to share the journey with.
The news follows a successful week for the British pop sensation, who received three nominations for the 2024 Brit Awards—artist of the year, pop act, and song of the year—on Wednesday, January 24.
