Whoopi Goldberg on Barbie Snubs: Oscars Ignite Fiery Response

Whoopi Goldberg on Barbie Snubs: Goodbye, Barbie. The scorching take from Whoopi Goldberg on the film’s omission from several key categories at the 2024 Oscars is here. Goldberg, along with “The View” co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Sunny Hostin, discussed “Barbie” actor Ryan Gosling’s response to Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s lack of Oscar nominations.

For his portrayal of Ken in the magical comedy, Gosling received a nomination for best supporting actor. After the topic of cinematic snubs from the industry became hotly debated, Goldberg took a stand against the idea of rejection.

“No one comes out on top,” Goldberg stated. What I’m trying to say is that they’re not snobs. Plus, it’s not the wealthy few. Nominations for best picture are decided by the whole Academy Awards family.

Nominated for eight Oscars in all—Best Film, best adapted screenplay, Best Original Song, best costume design, Best Production Design, best supporting actor/actress, and Best Overall—”Barbie” had a successful 96th Oscar season.

Even though Robbie is listed as a producer on the picture, he was not even considered for an acting role. “You can’t have it both ways,” Goldberg remarked. That is the thing that must be considered. The judging is subjective, and not everyone wins. Movies can be seen by everyone. Voters might not share your enthusiasm for the films you enjoy.

Gosling conveyed his unhappiness with the lack of recognition for Robbie and Gerwig in the best actress and best director categories in a statement that was shared with multiple sources, including CNN and The Hollywood Reporter.

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film,” stated Gosling.

Everyone in the film owes it all to their own brilliance, perseverance, and talent. Their omission from the nominations in their respective categories is something I’m deeply disappointed about.
