Eminem and Kim Scott, Mather’s parents, were high school sweethearts. In 1989, the couple began dating after meeting at a party.
After just one year, they tied the knot. However, their marriage was not happy due to their shared struggles with substance abuse and the resulting violent home. Nevertheless, Scott gave birth to their daughter on Christmas Day 1995.
Eminem worked in restaurants to support his family and put food on the table. That exacerbated their differences and caused Mathers to grow up in a volatile home where her parents frequently quarrel over money.

She recalls riding on her father’s tour van and how it seemed like an overall experience for children. She didn’t understand how great and memorable those memories were until she was older.
“Thinking back as an adult, like, wow, that’s honestly so surreal,” she stated on her podcast. Now, when I reflect on those memories, I realize how foolish I thought those things to be commonplace.
