White House Raises Concerns Regarding Taylor Swift Circulated Deepfakes on the Internet

Fake s*xually graphic photos of pop star Taylor Swift have been making the rounds on social media, and the White House is very worried about them.

Press secretary for the president Karine Jean-Pierre stressed the seriousness of the situation and urged social media platforms to intervene swiftly to stop the propagation of false information in a statement released on Friday.

The disturbing images went viral earlier this week, drawing a lot of attention. One particularly horrible one allegedly had 47 million views on X (formerly Twitter) before the account that posted it was suspended, according to The New York Times.

“This is very alarming,” Jean-Pierre told reporters during a press briefing, highlighting the matter’s critical nature. Therefore, we will address this matter to the best of our abilities.

She went on to say that lawmakers should think about passing laws to stop the spread of misleading images, especially ones that could be created by AI.

Lax enforcement against false photographs has a disproportionate effect on women, as Jean-Pierre pointed out. “So while social media companies make their own independent decisions about content management, we believe they have an important role to play in enforcing, enforcing their own rules to prevent the spread of misinformation, and non-consensual, intimate imagery of real people,” according to her.

The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, has spoken out about his worries about Swift’s overt AI manipulations, calling them “alarming and terrible.” When asked about the need to act quickly, Nadella told NBC Nightly News, “I think it behoves us to move fast on this.”
